Hashimoto’s Disease



The thyroid gland is located in the neck, just below your voice box (larynx). It produces two thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which regulate how the body uses energy. This is sometimes called your “metabolism.”

How well the thyroid works is controlled by another gland called the pituitary, located at the base of the brain. The pituitary produces thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), which stimulates the thyroid to produce T4 and T3.
